Human-Nature

Layered film exposures bring together the human form and floral elements, revealing a visual dialogue between the body and the natural world.
Artist Statement

The human form, flowers, and the beginning of a creative journey

"Human Nature grew from my admiration for the floral paintings of Georgia O’Keeffe and from the philosophy of photographer Pete Turner, who believed that every transparency was not the end, but the beginning of a creative journey.

The final images in this series were created through layered film exposures using a Bessler Dual Mode Slide Duplicator. Throughout the process, I worked with a variety of film stocks, including Agfa 1000 color slide film, Kodachrome 64, Kodak Tri X, Kodak infrared black and white film, and Polaroid 35mm high contrast instant film. The nude figures were photographed on black and white film, while the flowers were captured in color.

Through multiple exposures and varied techniques, these separate elements were merged to create richly layered compositions that explore the relationship between the human form and the natural world. In these images, body and flower exist together as one visual language, shaped by contrast, texture, memory, and transformation.

The human form and the natural world are deeply connected. Through layering and light, I wanted these images to reflect that quiet and enduring bond."
